Great products still need to arrive on time and on budget. Understanding export basics helps you plan landed costs and set realistic delivery dates for your customers.

Know your incoterms

Incoterms define who pays for and who is responsible for goods at each stage. EXW, FOB, CIF and DDP each shift cost and risk differently, agree on them before you confirm an order.

Air vs sea freight

Air freight is fast but costly, ideal for samples and urgent restocks. Sea freight is economical for bulk volumes when your timeline allows a few weeks of transit.

  • Air: 2–7 days, higher cost, best for small/urgent shipments.
  • Sea: 2–6 weeks, lower cost per unit, best for bulk.
  • Courier: fastest for samples and documents.

Documentation matters

A reliable manufacturer prepares your commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and any required certificates. Complete paperwork is what keeps shipments moving through customs without delay.
